If Hercules was released around this decade, I honestly believe that not only would Hades still be a very popular character Megara would also be just as popular next to him. She was the real hero of this film! It was also through her that Hercules finally understood what it meant to be a true hero, a goal he has been trying to achieve throughout the entire movie. Hercules regains his super strength, and he is able to stop Hades from ruling the world. This love restored apart of Meg that was lost for a long time, and she once again sacrifices a lot to save the person she loves only it is actually worth it this time. When the time is right and you meet the right people, that love will come to you. Another important lesson for kids, that they shouldn't focus so hard on looking for love. Her guilt doesn't stop there after she falls in love with Hercules, which is something she wasn't even looking for. In her mind, she is no better than everyone else. ![]() She hates herself for selling her soul away to the Devil for a guy whose feelings weren't mutual, and she's deceiving Hercules in order to gain her freedom even though she knows that the way she's doing it is wrong. She's also referring to herself, which implies she also suffers from self-loathing. "You wanted to be pity and dishonest?" That line was so realistic, especially afterwards when Hercules insists not everyone is like that, but Meg still stands by her point when she looks at her reflection in the water. ![]() But she is mainly speaking from experience, Hercules' way of thinking was similar to how Meg used to think so she tries to prepare him from potential disappointment he could face when dealing with people. When Hercules talks about how much he wishes he could be like everyone else, Meg shrugs it off as him thinking in a naive manner. When we get to the scene where Hercules and Meg spend time together, the details don't end there. It provides an important lesson to kids that life isn't a fairy tale, and if you aren't more careful when it comes to living in reality you could end up viewing the world in a very cynical and dark perspective much like Meg. This scene alone tells us so much about what Meg was probably like before she became Hades' slave, and perfectly explains why she is the way she is currently. She is left heartbroken, when the love of her life repaid her by abandoning her for someone else. Similar to another Disney film in The Little Mermaid, while Ariel gave up her voice for a guy, Meg gave up her life for a guy but it doesn't go the way she expected. She only works for Hades cause she made a deal with him to be in servitude in order to save her boyfriend (from possibly dying). One of my favourites scenes in the movie was learning more about Megara's past. Later on we learn that she works for the film's villain: Hades, but not by choice. She is introduced as a woman who is quite rude, but has a quick-witted charisma you can't help but love. Looking back at the film and watching her development, it is so amazing having to watch how much she grows followed by the details we get as the film progresses. If anything, she is probably one of the most complex characters the studio has ever written. Although it doesn't get as much attention aside from a few exceptions where Hades is a huge fan favourite, Megara is a character I find just as brilliant as he is. Hercules is one of my absolute favourite films made by Disney, and I find it to be one of their most underrated movies next to The Emperor's New Groove. His picks are great! There is also another reason why we haven’t chosen this method, but before diving into it, let’s talk about our needs. This also happens to be a somewhat recent addition to OpenSSH, and given the heterogeneity we outlined above, it would have left a lot of systems on the side. Managing a CA correctly is no joke and can bite you quite hard if done improperly. It can be a highly successful if done very carefully, with a lot of security and processes around the certificates delivery workflows. This is a very centralized way of managing your accesses, with all the power in the hands of whoever controls your CA. This specifies which account can be accessed on the server, among other things. You install the public certificate of your CA on all your servers, and they’ll accept any connection authenticated by a certificate delivered by said CA, relying on the subjectName of the certificate. ![]() PKI-based authenticationįor the sake of completeness – because I can hear you from here SSH gurus! – there is a third way in recent versions of SSH servers, namely authentication based on a PKI with a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). Indeed, doing it properly and maintaining it in the long-term in an enterprise context is a real challenge. Pushing your public key to your home server is easy, but when you have tens of thousands of servers/devices, as well as thousands of employees, administering some always-changing subset of said servers/devices, it quickly becomes complicated. It goes a long way to fixing password issues, but then the problem becomes scalability. But you’re just putting additional burden on your users and still not achieving a satisfactory level of security. Of course there are ways to mitigate the risk, such as forcing a periodic password renew, a minimum password length and/or complexity, or disabling an account after several failures, etc. As a sysadmin, you never really sleep well when you know that the security of your systems are just one password away. They bring a whole range of problems, such as the fact that they’re always subject to bruteforce attacks, and some users might get hit by the password reuse plague. Even strong passphrases such as “ Correct Horse Battery Staple“, are nothing more than an elaborate password in the end. This forces you to use a password manager that is protected by… a master password. Either you pick one that is too easy to crack, or you pick some very complex one that you’ll never remember. Well, we all already know that passwords suck. Password authenticationįirst, the password way. The issue is that none of these two ways are really satisfactory in an enterprise context. There are two regular ways of using it: either you just type your account password when the remote server asks for it, which is more or less like rlogin (without your password transmitted in plaintext over the wire) or you use a public key authentication, by generating a so-called “keypair”, with the private key sitting on your desk (or in a smartcard), and the corresponding public key sitting on a remote server. SSH has been the de-facto admin standard for quite some time now – replacing obsolete programs such as rlogin, that were happily transferring your password in plaintext over the network – so we use it all the time, as most of the industry does. But regardless of this heterogeneity, do you know what they all have in common? Yes, they all ping, but there’s something more interesting: they can all be administered through ssh. We also have a lot of network devices, split against different constructors, spanning a wide range of model generations.Īs you’ve probably guessed, we have heterogeneous systems that are running to provide a handful of different services. We also had Solaris boxes, that later turned into OmniOS boxes, that have now turned into shiny FreeBSD boxes. As long as it has a CPU (or vCPU), we probably booted some kind of Linux distro on it. ![]() ![]() We even had good old Gentoos once! These are all stored on bare metal servers, on VMs, and in containers everywhere. We have a lot of different flavours such as Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat… and the list goes on. At OVHcloud, a fair amount of our infrastructures are built on top of Linux boxes. |
